What better way to top off a hugely theatrical day catching two shows in London than indulging in some scrumptious Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Afternoon Tea? When heading down to catch Les Mis and Kinky Boots for a
Beautifully located in the heart of Covent Garden, and just across the road from the Lion King, the One Aldwych Hotel is a classy and luxurious hotel. Inspired by the magical Roald Dahl novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (not to mention the extravagant stage show that had a residency in the West End just a couple of years ago,) it’s a truly delicious experience.
Once sitting down in the sleek and modern restaurant, with lots of natural light and a view of the Lyceum Theatre, we were handed some wonderfully illustrated menus. Each themed to a different child in the classic novel, it was a really lovely touch.
On the menu, the selection was suitably sweet. Tea is my thing, and the One Aldwych didn’t disappoint with the innovative selection. Forget the bog standard English Breakfast, we tucked into both the intensely refreshing Moroccan Mint and the Rose Garden blend that was bursting with natural flavours. You’d think it would be an overload on your taste buds, but it left us
Unlike many restaurants, I was surprised they barely bat an eyelid when mentioning my nut allergy. They simply catered the menu to my needs and it didn’t feel lacking in the slightest. They even tailored the banana and walnut cake to create a nut-free banana cake just for us.
Accompanied by a succulent glass of Lallier Grande Réserve Champagne, it was an impressive Afternoon Tea that was the perfect way to relax and recharge ahead of our busy day in London’s theatre land. With sweet treats galore that were designed with detail to both look outstanding and taste astonishing, it was an extraordinary experience.
