I am very excited to announce that I have officially become a blogger for the Birmingham Hippodrome. I am currently a musical theatre student at a performing arts college in Birmingham and I am hoping to go to university next year to study journalism. I came across this fantastic opportunity to combine both of my passions, writing and theatre, and become a blogger for the Hippodrome. Therefore I applied, had an interview and last week I found out that I was chosen to become a “First Night” blogger.
The Hippodrome have a fantastic scheme called “First Night” where anyone between the ages of 16-23 can sign up for free and see many shows at the Hippodrome for either £5 or at a heavily discounted rate. This is an incredible scheme that enables young people to visit the theatre without the expense. Before I became a blogger for the Hippodrome I used to use the First Night scheme a lot, particularly for seeing musicals and ballet. However now I get the opportunity to see numerous shows on press night and write about them here on my blog. Click here to have a look at all the shows currently on offer for “First Night” members.
I’ve recently redesigned the whole of my blog and at the top you will see a tab for the Hippodrome where I will archive all of my reviews of the shows. I am a huge theatre devotee so I am extremely grateful to be able to be part of such a brilliant scheme and write for a theatre that I have been going to since I was a little girl.
If you’d like to follow my twitter and the Hippodrome’s official twitter you’ll be able to get the latest news of all the shows and events. I am lucky enough to be blogging alongside the ambassador of the scheme Heather Kincaid and my new fellow blogger Rebecca Gibson and I think we are going to make the perfect team. You can find the links to their blogs below.
I’ll be frequently writing on my blog about a variety of topics, I’ll continue with my normal style of writing which will be found under the “writing” tab. However obviously I’ll be introducing a lot of theatre reviews for the site and even some lifestyle posts about anything from travel to big events in my life. Overall I am hoping to kick-start my career in journalism with the help of this fantastic opportunity.
In only a few weeks I will be attending my first show so watch this space for all the latest news and reviews.
